FGM LEGAL INTERN TAKES MOOT COURT COMPETITIONS BY STORM

Sheila L. Amiry, legal intern for Franks, Gerkin & McKenna was a finalist at the Northern Illinois University College of Law's 25th Annual Moot Court Competition. Final arguments were held at NIU's Riley Courtroom and Sheila argued on behalf of the State's use of a defendant's pre-arrest silence. Judging the final round of the competition were Hon. Anne Burke, Illinois Supreme Court; Hon. John W. Darrah, United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois; and Julie Angus, Judicial Clerk for Justice Tom M. Lytton, Illinois Appellate Court, 3rd District.

More recently, Sheila Amiry represented Northern Illinois University's College of Law at the 2007 Illinois Appellate Lawyer's Association Midwest moot court competition. The issue Sheila wrote and argued about involved the Second Amendment and whether individuals have a fundamental right to possess weapons. Sheila tied for 2nd place for the best written brief.

After tackling two moot court competitions, Sheila is moving on to the trial level and will be competing for NIU at the 33rd Annual National Trial Competition. All of us at Franks, Gerkin & McKenna wish Sheila the best of luck. We know she will do great!
